Chosen, Holy, Beloved

Chosen, Holy, Beloved

The world can be so cruel. From the time we enter our mother’s wombs, it begins to send us messages, judging us and making determinations about our worth and our desirability. Unfortunately, some of us received messages that we were unplanned, mistakes, accidents… the result of a lax in judgment during a moment of passion. For those whose birth was planned by their parents, or was seen as a pleasant surprise, the world has still tried to send you harmful messages about your identity and value along the way.

Subconsciously carrying those messages can affect us in ways that drive our thoughts, words and actions. If we don’t allow ourselves to face the pain caused by these false messages, we will never have the privilege of uncovering and discovering the beauty of who we truly are.

While the world forces messages on us that stifle us, God invites us to hear and receive His messages that awaken us. Can you see the difference between the two methods? When something is forced upon you there is a sense of coercion involved, the message may be loud and repetitive. But, an invitation takes the form of a polite request- so the message may come across as gentle, subtle, even quiet because it desires to give you the choice as to whether to receive it or not. For me, it has often felt like the world screams, while God whispers.

God is tender and compassionate, He invites us, calls us and draws us to be wrapped in His love every single day, His love that forms a warm cocoon where transformation takes place… and it's there, in His love that we recover the truth… The truth that you weren’t unplanned, you are not a burden, and you are not an inconvenience because…

You were always God’s will, you have always been His plan, and the timing of your life is perfectly divine, you were made intentionally for such a time as this, predestined to be His. (Ephesians 1:5)

You were formed by the Master Himself, who delighted in forming every piece of your beautiful being, enjoying the delicate process of knitting you together in your mother’s womb. Your heavenly Father made you fearfully and wonderfully, intricately weaving you together in the secret places of His heart, and even now His thoughts for you are precious and outnumber the grains of sand. (Psalm 139:13-18)

You are a blessing to your family and a gift to this world, you were created to live as God’s masterpiece, doing wondrous works that bring Him glory. (Ephesians 2:10)

Beautiful, no matter what messages the world may have sent you, God has spoken a beautiful word about you before time was time, and that word has alway been that you are holy, chosen and beloved. Breathe in this truth in, rest in this truth, speak this truth: you are chosen, holy and beloved. (Colossians 3:12)

Reflection Questions

  1. What are some of the harmful messages the world has sent you about your worth, desirability and identity? Have you ever taken those messages to God and asked Him to replace them with the truth? If so, what are some of the truths God has spoken to you? If not, are you willing to take them to Him now?

  2. How does it make your heart feel to know that you are chosen, holy and beloved in God’s sight? What do each of those words mean to you? What do each of those words show you about God’s heart for you?
